A senior Finance Ministry official was killed and his wife injured when a BMW hit their motorcycle in the Delhi Cantonment area on Sunday, police said.
The victim has been identified as Navjot Singh, 57, who was posted as Deputy Secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs under the Finance Ministry. His wife is reported to have suffered serious injuries.
The BMW was being driven by a woman, identified as Gaganpreet, who was accompanied by her husband and two young children, police said
According to a police officer, Singh and his wife had gone to the Bangla Sahib Gurudwara in the morning and then stopped for lunch at Karnataka Bhavan. The couple left Karnataka Bhavan at about 1:15 pm and were heading to their home in Hari Nagar when the accident occurred.
Police said the incident came to light when they received multiple calls pertaining to traffic jams between Dhaula Kuan and Delhi Cantonment area. “Three PCR calls regarding traffic jams from Dhaula Kuan towards Delhi Cantonment metro station road were received. Staff reached the spot and found one BMW car lying sideways, along with one motorcycle which was found near the divider of the road,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (South West) Amit Goel said.
